OCIA: A Faith Journey: August 11th

The path to Catholicism has begun for some inquirers in our Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) process. Some are seeking to complete the Sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation and others are seeking to enter a religion for the first time. The next few months will be a time for these adults to learn about our faith and determine if this is the path they wish to take in their lives.

The OCIA process leads adults through several rites that allows the participants to explore deeper the Catholic faith and the effect it can have on their spiritual well-being. Each week through Scripture, prayer, basic catechesis, and service, the team and parish sponsors assist with this journey of faith culminating with the reception of the Sacraments they seek at the Easter Vigil.

Numerous parishioners give of their time to serve as parish sponsors or on the team.  The parish sponsors are there weekly supporting an assigned candidate through this process. The team spends much time and study to provide the instruction based on the teachings of the faith.

A strong, cohesive faith community is built that allows our seekers to know the love of God through practicing Catholics. Also, through this process we integrate them into parish life and service, which is critical to being fully immersed in the faith.

For the next few months, we welcome additional adults who want to renew themselves in the Catholic faith through the Sacraments or want to learn more about Catholicism.

If you or someone you know may be interested in completing the Sacraments mentioned above, or are interested in possibly becoming Catholic, please call the parish office at (309) 762-2362 or email Sandy at scarlsten@sacredheartmoline.org. Our next inquiry session is Tuesday, August 11th at 6:30 p.m. in the AV room of Culemans Hall. Our weekly sessions begin Tuesday, September 8th.
