Making Human Connections

Dear Parishioners,

The summer months are an opportunity for intellectual stimulation. Perhaps that is why so many publications put out a summer reading list. There are also offerings for adult education at universities around the country. It is good to be informed.  That is why we try to offer adult education nights here at Sacred Heart Parish. When we were considering topics for this year, we remembered that Pope Leo just wrote an encyclical called Magnifica Humanitas. This document addresses Catholic social teaching in light of advances in artificial intelligence and other technology.

Pope Leo offers a summary of Social Justice principles and a reflection on what various Popes taught, from Pope Leo the XIII to the present. I find his writing to be very pithy and interesting. He uses wonderful examples to make his points. Every Catholic can benefit by becoming familiar with what the Pope is saying. His encyclical is an affirmation of the unique place human beings have in the order of creation.

I am offering a summary of Pope Leo’s encyclical along with Fr. Matthew. We also hope to have a presentation on how to avoid being scammed on the internet. We are presenting two nights dealing with these topics. Each session is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the St. Damien Center. Watch our parish publications for more details.

Blessings,

Fr. Mark
