Pennies for Life

October is Respect Life Month. Every October we celebrate life! From the moment of conception until natural death, all life is sacred.

On the weekend of October 25th and 26th parish Pro- Life representatives are collecting “Pennies for Life” at all the Masses. We have the opportunity to donate one penny for each year of our life. As we gather our pennies, nickels, dimes, or quarters… consider what value we place on our own lives. Do we appreciate our lives? Have we thanked God for the gift of our lives?

What about others? Do we treat others with dignity? Do we realize that they are made in the image of God Himself? Do we acknowledge and appreciate the wonder of every person we encounter, whether they are able to communicate with us or not? Do we know that our worth is determined by God, not by what people can or cannot do? As we hear the sound of coins bouncing in the bucket, maybe we can associate the sound of jingling coins with the gift of time and the essence of life. Maybe we can ask God to show us how to treat each other with the dignity that we both deserve and need.
