“The Longest Night”...
“In the Bleak Midwinter”...
“I Wonder as I Wander”...

These melancholic song titles are hallmarks of the great disparity in this wintry season of Advent - such longing amidst such joyful preparations. This year we again offer Vespers Services at Sacred Heart, Sunday afternoons at 3:00 p.m., December 7th, 14th, and 21st.

Vespers are evening prayer services: a time to reflect and pray, for scripture and music, a time to discern intentions and purpose.

In this busy season where we give so much of ourselves, evening prayer offers us a pause to reflect and renew our spirits as we continue on the Advent journey. One cannot pour from an empty cup. Vespers hold a space for us to refill in its moments of music and message. It allows us to take time for oneself and attune to God within us as we then bring God into the world.

One unique aspect of Vespers is the inclusion of the Magnificat, the canticle of Mary. So come, join in prayer, and may our souls magnify the Lord.
