Second Sunday of Lent

Dear Parishioners,

One of the things that many of us like to do is watch movies.  We usually go to the movie theater to  see a movie.  We then walk out afterwards, and we might not think about what we have seen again.  If the movie is simply a way of escaping the hum drum of every day life maybe that is all right.  But if we see a movie that has a deep message and we fail to unpack what we see then the experience of viewing a movie or a play is far less meaningful than it could be.

On Wednesday nights after our Stations of the Cross and our simple meals we will be watching three thought provoking movies.  We will break them down in hour long segments and discuss the message that they offer us.  The movies are:

Francis a Man of His Word

Romero

The Keys of the Kingdom

All of these movies have a deep theme that can make us think.  All of them have been shown in the theater at some point. The movie about Pope Francis can help us appreciate the complicated task he has in leading our worldwide church (This movie was shown last Wednesday).

“Romero” is a Hollywood movie about one of the newest saints of the church, Bishop Oscar Romero.  As we struggle with the immigration debate this movie helps us understand the deep problems of Central America.  “The Keys of the Kingdom” addresses the sin of clericalism in the church.  Clericalism is said to be at the root of the abuse crisis.

If you would like to see a movie with friends and engage in a spiritually stimulating discussion then come to participate.

Blessings,

Fr. Mark

P.S. We have good news about the Today, Tomorrow, Together Capital Campaign.  We  have presently collected well over $1,700,000 in pledges for Sacred Heart.  Seton Catholic School has $750,000 in pledges.  Sacred Heart would like to have $3,000,000 for its needs.  There are still window sponsorships available.  A $6,000 pledge can make you a sponsor of the Resurrection Window which we will be restoring first.  Seton Catholic Schools campaign goal is $875,000.  We need everyone to help. Right now 372 Sacred Heart parishioners have responded. Please return the cards that were sent to you as soon as you can.
