Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners,

The stained-glass windows in our church are a precious treasure here at Sacred Heart. The restoration work that will be done, is explained in the case study for the Today Tomorrow Together campaign.  If we do not do the re-leading of the windows they will be compromised.

We have been very successful in our sponsorships drive so far.  The remaining windows are very expensive to restore.  We would like to give everyone an opportunity to participate (a flyer with information is available at all the church doors).  We are offering $6,000 dollars sponsorships. This does not have to be paid all at once, but anyone can pledge over three years.  We are offering these $6,000 sponsorships to restore the Resurrection window in the choir loft.

In Catholic spirituality we use art to raise our minds and hearts to God. We pray with all our senses.  When we use incense, we use our sense of smell.  When we receive communion, we use our sense of taste.  When we sing, we use our hearing.  When we kneel, we use our sense of touch.  When we look at biblical scenes in stained glass, we use our sense of sight.

We believe art does not distract from our prayer, but it aids our ability to pray.  For that reason, we invest time in being good stewards of the art that has been entrusted to us.  If you want to help maintain our worship space, I would strongly encourage sponsorship of our windows.

Donors will be recognized on a plaque that will hang in church and ultimately in our proposed gathering space. Continue to pray for the future of our parish and its mission to spread the Gospel message.

Blessings,

Fr. Mark

P.S. It is now officially flu season.  Because it is, I would remind everyone to take certain precautions.  I would ask communion ministers to wash their hands when they arrive at church.  It would be good to refrain from taking communion on the tongue.  Saliva can get on the communion minister’s hands and then germs are passed on to the next communicants. Finally, if you do not feel well, refrain from receiving from the cup.  Receiving from the cup is always optional.  Therefore, everyone can make their own decision about whether to receive under both species during flu season.
