23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners,

“Today, Tomorrow, Together.”  These are words that we will hear a lot over the next six months.  The steering committee for our capital campaign has been working hard these last few weeks planning the process for the campaign.  Representatives from Sacred Heart, Christ the King and Seton Catholic School have tried to come up with a theme for our campaign.  The words at the beginning of this message represent the initial idea.

What are we trying to say?  We are saying that our capital campaign is an attempt to help strengthen the entire Moline Catholic community.  If we are all strong this will benefit everyone. We are like the links in a chain.  If there is a weak link the whole chain may break. Success for one is success for all.

We look at the past generations of Catholics and we realize that without their sacrifices we would not have the parishes and school that we do.  When decisions had to be made to so that the mission of the Catholic Church in Moline had to be made our ancestors in the faith did not shrink from making those decisions.  They stepped forward in faith. Now it is our turn to try to enhance our faith community for the next generation.

I am heartened by the good will I see on our steering committee.  We all want to help each other. We are not in competition. St. James Letter today speaks about the need to share resources for the community.  And that is what our efforts are about as we enter into an effort to meet the capital needs of our parishes and schools.

Next week I will introduce our campaign prayer.  We will be using that prayer throughout the fall and winter at various events. But everyone is invited to pray in their own way for God’s blessings on our efforts as we work Today so that we will have a better Tomorrow Together.

Blessings,

Fr. Mark

P.S. Thanks to the Social Committee and to all who planned the Parish Festival today. This is truly a nice event for our parish community.  Please thank the volunteers as you meet them on the parish grounds.
