Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioners,
January is a month when we remember the Roe vs. Wade decision that occurred in 1973. Millions of babies have been aborted over the last 43 years. We can be heartened by the fact that it seems more laws have been passed to protect babies in the womb.
During the latter part of January, we will be having two symbols by the Blessed Virgin Mary statue in our church. One is a rose. This flower reminds us of the delicacy of human life. Like a rose must be cared for if it is to open and to last, human life must be treated with care at all its stages if the quality of life is to be maintained.
The candle reminds us that we must tend the flame of pro-life concerns. We must be advocating all times. Laws hostile to life can be passed at a dizzying pace. It is hard to believe how Euthanasia is gaining so much acceptance in our country. Somehow, we must stand against these trends. Our voice may be the only one in the room at times that speaks in favor of the vulnerable.
Let us ask the Blessed Mother (our mother) to intercede on behalf of her children. Maybe the conscience of humanity will be pricked, and we will see nations and individuals defend the live of everyone from birth to natural death.
Blessings,
Fr. Mark
