Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioner,
Lent is a good time to grow in our spiritual life. Sometimes spiritual reading is a good way to do that. Last year parishioners hosted study groups in their homes. This was a great community building activity as well as a way to grow in faith.
We would like to offer these groups again, but we need some people to lead them. The more sessions and times we have the more participation we will have. If you are interested in leading a group just contact Suzie Budde in the office. We will be finalizing groups in the upcoming week.
The name of the book that will be discussed is, Mercy in the City by Kerry Weber. This is a book that won a Christopher award for Catholic writing. The book reflects on the Works of Mercy and the author writes about her experiences in extending help to others. It is funny and thought provoking.
A study guide has been written to guide leaders and participants. I would encourage people to consider leading a small group. Again, it is a way to continue to reflect the works of mercy that Jesus emphasized and which Pope Francis feels are essential to our Christian lives.
On Ash Wednesday and on the First Sunday of Lent we will have group sign-ups. We hope that we have a time that will fit into everyone’s schedule. We should be ordering the books this week and we will have them available for sale. More information will be announced at Masses.
Blessings,
Fr. Mark
P.S. Everyone is invited to bring their palms to the church for Ash Wednesday. We will have a fire burning outside next weekend, February 25/26. Just throw your palms in the fire. Thank you.
